Life story

I never knew Darcey, but her story has touched me so much that I just wanted to create this page for her.

Darcey Iris Freeman was born January 31, 2004 in Melbourne, Australia. She was the only daughter in a family of three children; she had two brothers, Ben and Jack.

On the morning of January 29, 2009, Darcey woke up with great excitement. Her 5th birthday was only two days away and she was starting her very first day of "Big Kid" school. However, Darcey never lived to see her first day of school or her 5th birthday.

Darcey's father, Arthur Phillip Freeman, was driving the children to school when he stopped in gridlock traffic on the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne. For reasons known only to him, he took Darcey out of the car, walked her over to the side of the bridge and threw her over and Ben and Jack watched in horror from inside the car. Darcey fell 58 metres but put up quite a fight to stay alive. Rescue workers were called and did all they could to save Darcey until she finally could not hold on any longer.

Darcey's story shocked not only Australia but the entire world...how could a parent do this to their own child? What could Darcey possibly have done to deserve such a cruel end to her innocent life? We will probably never have answers to these questions but there is one thing we can do: We can make sure that Darcey is never forgotten and send our love to her. I know this will never bring her back but at least she will live on in spirit. We love you Darcey and we send our love and prayers to your family, especially to Ben and Jack.
